About the Loft

Formerly the Imperial Optical Lens Factory, Century Lofts was converted by Century Lofts Developments into live/work lofts in 2000. This two storey building was built in the 1940s as the Imperial Optical Company’s lens factory. The yellow brick exterior and poured concrete is an excellent example of the Art Deco style of that era. Composed of 41 ‘New York-style’ units, some of the hard loft features include 11.5 ft ceilings, wood/steel post & beam or concrete and mushroom cap columns, and Terrazzo floors.

About Cabbagetown

Cabbagetown is a neighbourhood that began in the 1840s when thousands of Irish Immigrants settled there after fleeing the potato famine in Ireland. Residents were extremely poor. During the Depression of the 1930s, Cabbagetown was known as the worst Anglo Saxon slum in North America. Houses were built between 1860 and 1895. They have been restored under the watchful eye of the Cabbagetown Preservation Association.
