Buying a loft in Toronto

What is the difference between a hard loft and a soft loft?

A hard loft is a conversion: a building put up for another purpose — a factory, a warehouse, a school — and later turned into residences, keeping the exposed brick, timber beams and oversized industrial windows it was built with. A soft loft is purpose-built, a newer condominium designed in the loft idiom with high ceilings, open plans and exposed concrete. Of the 331 loft buildings in Toronto, 134 are hard lofts and 190 are soft lofts.

How many loft buildings are there in Toronto?

331 loft buildings across the city, each with its own page here listing the year it was built or converted, the number of units and storeys, the amenities and every loft currently for sale or rent in it.

How current are the listings on this site?

Listings come from the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board feed (TRREB/PropTx) and are updated hourly, with a full reconciliation overnight. A unit that comes off the market stops appearing here the same day.

Why do some listings ask me to sign in?

Under the board's Virtual Office Website rules, certain listings may only be shown to a registered visitor who has signed in and accepted the terms. Registering is free, and it is the board's requirement rather than a condition we have added.
