About the Loft - Sorauren Lofts was originally built in 1908 and occupied by Chapman Double Ball Bearing Company. The building was converted by Brown Group in 1997. This 2-storey conversion contains 48 bright, spacious units. Unique features include 12 to 15-foot high wood and metal ceilings, hardwood floors, exposed brick, original timber post and beams, and steel framed mezzanine levels. Some units on the first floor have patios facing the park.
About the Neighbourhood - Roncesvalles was originally settled by Colonel Walter O’Hara in 1850. O’Hara was wounded and captured by the French in the Roncesvalles Gorge in northern Spain; hence the name Roncesvalles. The development of the present-day neighbourhood was spurred on by the street-car, which came to this area in the early 1900s. Roncesvalles was a family-oriented neighbourhood right from the start.
