About the Loft -
About the Neighbourhood - Cabbagetown is a neighbourhood that began in the 1840s when thousands of Irish Immigrants settled there after fleeing the potato famine in Ireland. Residents were extremely poor. During the Depression of the 1930s, Cabbagetown was known as the worst Anglo Saxon slum in North America. Houses were built between 1860 and 1895. They have been restored under the watchful eye of the Cabbagetown Preservation Association.
